Of all the churches listed in the Revelations, Philadelphia had the most commandments given from the Risen Lord. The church name meaning is “Brotherly Love” The current location is within Modern Turkey.
Roman Emperor Tiberius reconstructed the city after a major earthquake in 17AD. The reason being that the Greco-Roman’s culture, language and its practices can be shown outside the Empire of Rome. So that other cultures would come and learn without having to travel to the city of Rome. Because the city was a major gathering point for intellectuals and of cultures the city was huge and had become wealthy.
Our church is located within the Silicon Valley. The number 1 city in the entire nation of United States, and is the technical capital. Famous people like the Queen of Great Britain and so forth would always visit this place when they visit the United States. This place is the meeting place for the intellectuals to strike out in technology. This is a major city to evangelize the gospel. This is the Mecca of Technology, at the same time like of Philadelphia. The Lord had given us the opportunities to evangelize the brains of the word.
The Church of Philadelphia as an open door church used its opportunities to be the front line troop in evangelizing the gospel. How was this achieved? According to Revelations 3:7 and beyond, the church was like thusly:
“…To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the Key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open… (Revelation 3:7~)”
-The church of Philadelphia kept their faith
-The church of Philadelphia used their power to the utmost.
-The members of the church of Philadelphia had always clung to the words of the Lord.
There is no way to tell how many members and what different levels of wealth of people had gathered.
One thing is certain. Those around them did not welcome the Gospel.
Not only the city around them was multi-religious, even inside the church, those called Jews came in like the Devil’s Meeting group to shake the faith of the members of the church. The Christians there would lose power and would be silenced.
Despite all the hardships, and of the trials coming and passing, the church had gathered in the banner of the Christ and marched and opened the gate to Satan. The Risen Lord had repeatedly complemented the church’s success.
Like the Church of Philadelphia, we would develop in the relationship with the Lord, with even the smallest of possibilities, would greaten in the power of the Lord. I pray the church would withstand any opposition and of any tribulations. As the Open Church, the Good News would be spread to other Koreans living abroad, to spread all over the nations of the Earth. God had called us to join in this work. I believe that the Lord had called upon us for this work. As we gather under the banner of the Lord, we would carry our cross and to march on.
