Unforgettable Names

On the 14th of July, in the city of Dana Point, a southern most city in the Orange County, there was an event that made every immigrated Koreans in awe. It is the county where the C&MA’s Korean District office is located. California Highway 1  (The Pacific Highway), which follows from Huntington Beach to Capistrano Beach in its entire length was renamed to Orange County Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway. Next to the memorial sign was California’s house of representative and an elderly gentleman named Chuck Baker, who had lost all of his fingers and toes from frostbite when he had stayed too long wounded in an underground trench during the Korean War. He was dressed in his former uniform at that time. This section of the highway will make everyone remember of the tragic event of the Korean War, and of their veterans who had fought in it.
In the entire month of the June, the entire nation of Korea cheers “Go Korea!” and clap in unity. Looking at the newspaper picture of the GwangHwa Gate amongst the waves of red shirt dressed people, it reminds of the men and women who had sacrificed and bled for our country. It is a great reminder not to only remember Gus Hiddink who had led Korea in the third place in semi-finals, but also of the ancestors who had valiantly fought to free our country.
There is one person I would like to introduce that I almost had nearly forgotten. During the Korean War, there was a private first class named KiEun Kim. He had passed away in 1992 in the South Jeolla Province, in the island of Wando, in the small town of Go-Guem village, working in the fields and farm. During the Korean War, his right thumb was shot off from a pistol fire from the enemy. Despite the profuse bleeding, he had caught and held onto the Chinese Communist Army’s commanding officer, Lieutenant General Nam and after 6 hours of struggle, after being discovered, the general was captured by the Korean Military Police. Thanks to his enormous effort of capturing a high-ranked officer, the North Korea was forced to go into a peace treaty in a rush.
There are so many people who to be thankful for and to never forget. I hope that we remember their name often and to strengthen our ministry. There are several names furthermore, that should be called out and never forgotten. That is our Lord, Jesus Christ. We in our work must show the Alpha and the Omega. We will tell people of his name, and to praise in the highest praise. I also pray that we would never forget the “Great Commission” that our risen Lord has given. It is a self examination to see from all the busy works, ministry’s important burdens, and of the worldly things we have acquainted, we sometimes often neglect the name of Jesus.
In the book of John chapter 6, it is recorded that many of people had followed Jesus, not knowing what he is and what he is doing, calling him many different things in worldly view, and in the end had become disappointed and left. Also in the book of Luke chapter 2, verses 41~46 Jesus’ mother and father had forgotten about him at Jerusalem during the Passover and was returning to Galilee, but had remembered and returned. The bible warns of never forgetting the name of Jesus. The Apostles had gained strength and had placed their life in passing his name, and gained power in His name. (Acts 3:6,16)
