Without calculations and filtering (Romans 5:8)
The Pisa Tower started its construction in the year 1174 and when it was about the 3rd floor, the underground floor was sinking and had become unstable and construction was stopped. However, the tower was eventually constructed to its current shape in the latter portion of the 14th century. About 10 years ago, Italian Geologist Giovanni Garibaldi said, “it is the God’s will that the Tower of Pisa is tilting” His statement is not just a warning he spoke as a scientist reporting on his search, but a warning as well to the end of the days.
After the 9/11 terrorist incident, the Doomsday Clock’s time was pulled 2 minutes forward. Many scientists have calculated and ascertained that the supposed time of ending is 11:53PM, 7 minutes short of the midnight. There is a clock that used to hang in the Bulletin’s office in the University of Chicago called the Doomsday Clock. It represents when the world is going to end, build and made by the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. When the clock strikes midnight, it is suppose to be the end of the world. Once, the clock had been shorted to 2 minutes before midnight and had put fear in the entire world. Is it only nuclear warfare that will end earth? Many ecology scientists also warn about “no water” in earth. In a single day, about 100 different ecological systems are destroyed. It is a severe problem, and the ex-president candidate Al Gore had warned that that “civilizations destroy other civilizations.”
As the world is such, “what do people live for?” becomes the biggest question in everyone’s mind. While the Twin Towers in New York was collapsing, a man in his 40s was running for his life covering in dust and ashes. When he had regained his consciousness, a stranger was feeding him water and taking care of him. He still to this day says the small act of kindness was “a mesmerizing power”. This mesmerizing power had come when the smallest act of kindness was made without any calculations and purely from understating the situation.
While the people in the hijacked airplane, most of their final messages the passengers sent to their family was not “I’m scared” or “Save me!” but of “I Love You.” Jiyoung Gong, a famous Korean female novelist wrote, “I love you,” is a proof that innocent people are sacrificed in an act of random terrorism, and that it would fall with the metals that they were incased in.
The culture of this moment is all self-centered, greedy and assaulting. What we need now is of people with open mind and heart, with acts of kindness. This kind of love is not created by man. It is through the God’s heart and will. A well known verse from Romans, Apostle Paul wrote,
“ But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)”
God’s love is not calculated and understanding, but of Agape. We have experienced such love. That is how the hopeless world was able to have hope and be in joy. We are chosen to spread of this profound love.
When Jesus Christ resurrected, he asked Peter 3 times. The question to Peter was of feeding and caring for his sheep, and all the time he was never to forget “do you love me?” like the true love Jesus has shown, there should never have some condition for a ministry. I wish and pray that as the Second Coming approaches, in this Easter Season, there would be an unconditional love to the neighbors through our ministries.
