911 (September 21st, 2001)
The emergency number is 911. Many people think the September 11th terrorist attack was a freak accident for the emergency number. This was indeed an emergency situation in highest. When I had visited several churches in Chicago the 11th of September, I was about to get on the 9AM airplane, and was calling another pastor that I couldn’t visit, he had said to do not board the plane, but watch the television. On the live news was something I could not believe. How can the safest country of the globe suffer such act?
The 110 floored Twin Towers had both shattered like a glass cup. About three thousand innocent lives were lost. The World Trade Center was the center of capitalism, and the pride of United States. It was the golden tower of modern civilization. But because of hijacking, the tower was destroyed in an instant.
Several people who had witnessed this event thought of the “Clash of Civilization” by Samuel P. Huntington. Many of intellectuals say this is the “New Capitalism attacked by anti-new age power” and “Free Capitalism vs. Totalitarianism” or “Anti-Civilization against the Civilization”.
The 21st century new age of war is indeed a faceless war, and is very serious. Compared to the wars of 20th century, the aspect of war has changed to terrorism. It is against terrorism. Not against tribe to tribe wars, culture against culture, or even Capitalism versus the Communism.
We can look at this as new massive “spiritual War”.
First, many of conservative Christians say it is “God’s punishment to United States being more and more secular”. Many of people have rebuked to that. Another say it is payback from the Islamic Jihadists from the Gulf Wars, etc. There will be an effect in C&MA spread of gospel amongst 65 nations.
Several of these missionaries are within the Islamic nations. Because of this event, the economy went down, along with the drop of the Great Commission Fund. Even this year there was a drop of 8% in the denomination’s budget. This is also an emergency situation for our spiritual war.
What is our duty when the nation and world is in emergency situation? We must call to God in our emergency number (911). Many of the denominations’ districts are holding prayer marathon.
Should the “Great spiritual Awakening” happen, and should we not be able to lose the chance to spread more gospels to the Islamic nations. I pray that the heart of the congregation would be overflowing in peace.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
