A Bird’s Nest!
A Bird’s Nest!

Wednesday, on the 23rd of July, to avoid the traffic on the road, I had come out of office earlier than usual around 4PM and headed to my house. After changing my clothes, I went out to see the Chrysanthemum and saw the leaves were drying from the heat.

I was about to water the flowers, when suddenly, 4 baby birds fluttered out!

As I was surprised, I had backed up. But seeing that the heat of the sun might kill them, I had quickly grabbed the young birds and places them back inside the flower pot. I probed around the Chrysanthemum’s bushes and saw there was a very pretty bird’s nest. I had given water to this flower once a week, and every time I used to water the outer edges. But today, I had sprayed the water albeit stronger. I had poured water on their nest. The birds had no choice but to fly out of the nest as if struck by lightning. Seeing their young ones out of their nest, its parents’ flew around the flower pot chirping away.

One of the surprised chicks had flown back out and fell on the first floor. I rushed to the spot and gently placed it back in the nest. I had spent the rest of the night, wishing those young chicks would grow up and fly away some day. The next day, I woke up early to check up on the bird, when I saw the mother bird quickly fly away from fright. When I took a closer look, there were only two of them left, but one of them was dead on the nest floor. I couldn’t see the other two chicks so I checked around the grass nearby, but nothing was there.

A while back, my wife and I noticed a bird smaller than a sparrow flying back and forth from the apartment’s balcony and the trees nearby. I saw them sitting on a small branch chirping, or sometimes flying around and about, but never expected them to have made a nest in the flowers. All we thought was, “the birds really like our place, since they seem to like us.” The reason was because we never saw those carrying twigs or grass to make for their nest. They had chosen a spot that was thick with foliage. We never saw the mother bird flying in through that way.

I had wished the last one would be alive and fly away and headed to my office. After getting off work, the first place I headed was the balcony. When I carefully opened the flowers to see where the last bird went, it was nowhere to be seen. I wandered around the first floor looking for it. It probably flew away with its mother after losing three of its siblings.  I felt sad and empty.

Hoping that they would once again return the next year, I left the nest as it is. Whenever I walk with my wife in the morning and see identical birds playing about, I feel sorry for accidently destroying a family of bird.
