Grandpa…
Grandpa…

My youngest of the grandchildren, Carys was able to do her potty fast. After turning 2 and half, family members were saying that “since you are bigger now, you can do potty on your own.” After that, she was able to do that on her own. About that time period, she stopped looking for her mother’s milk. She used to love being cuddled in her mother’s arm and eat her breast milk, but one day she suddenly stopped. Despite having several grandchildren, she was the one that stood out the most.

About last year, like as usual, I started to re-edit and organize my Last Will files. Most of the new items I have added were my memories with my grandchildren. Before I pass away, I wanted to leave stories behind of my grandchildren, who won’t remember their youth. I also had reorganized several of the final passing memorial service and those who were going to do the service. Since several of them that I had listed had moved away, or had asked a favor to have someone else do the job instead. After that, I had given out the corrected and edited files to those whom were listed. About that time, I had visited my daughter’s place to see our granddaughters.

My granddaughter Carys wanted to go to bathroom, and while she was doing her business, I sat on a small plastic chair and waited. At that moment, she motioned to me and said, “Grandpa, your mother and father has passed away right?” I was surprised by her much mature question, because she was only two years old and ten months. The words she said after was more of a shock. “Do you know when you would go to Heaven after you pass away too?” I was too stunned, but said “Of course.” She kept on, saying “My mother and father also will pass away eventually.”Adding on, “All people will die in the end.”She had her eyes locked onto mine while she spoke that way. Finally she added, “Once I get old I will pass away and go to heaven too.”

I was stunned beyond belief, so I had asked my daughter if she had said anything like that to her. Her response to that was. “No she probably remembered that from her Bible class.”Yesterday (November 12th, 2014) I had visited Carys. She said she was “Snow White” and had a long princess dress on. While she was going into bathroom, to help her with the dress, I had sat next to her for a bit. She said something extremely valuable. She said “Grandpa, God had created everyone.” I had asked her where she got that from, and she said from her bible class.  She also mentioned about the aforementioned things again. I heard later on that she had asked about my siblings and asked if they are alive or not. Most people’s reaction would be saying this is a made up story or that she isn’t like of her age.

Listening to all of this and that again from my youngest granddaughter, I am once again reminded that Christian teaching is important. Not only because it is valuable to teach to those children, and that are they able to tell and share to other people as well. As I write, I think of the day when I and my wife would leave our adorable Carys behind and move on.
