Every person has someone that inspires you. During hard times, they are renewed in memory. I have several people who are like that. Most of them are upperclassman or personally trained under. There is only one Mrs. Brown and another person whose name I do not remember when I came to United States. Both of them have one thing in common; they are both elderly and do not know me well.
While I was preaching and evangelizing the good news in the Youth Born Again Mission, American Branch, it was held in the Redwood Covenant Church. Young adults would attend that church on Sundays. There was a special hymn sung by this elderly lady once so often. Her voice was slightly wavering but her revered look still reminds me to this day. After I did not see her for while I asked someone about her, and found out she had passed away from a cancer. While she was fighting cancer, she was singing hymns with might, since her days to the Lord were near. When she sang, many of her hymn choices were about admiring heaven.
The other person was an elderly American man. I do not know his address or the name. It was during the tough times when I had just opened the Silicon Valley Open Door Church. I was much weakened, but I had received a card without a name. I couldn’t see who’s writing it was, but the card’s picture was of a soccer player flying to get a goal with their strength like it’s their last. Whenever I get into a hardship I remember of Mrs. Brown, who was singing with happiness in her face, while waiting for death from a cancer. The card that was send by the anonymous man, I do not know how he heard of my story, it sits in front of my desk to inspire me greatly.
Being inspired simply by looked upon, and to inspire an underclassman with a greeting card, how great is that? Not only did they love with just Word of God, but also affecting those around them. They had inspired because they had given their lives to God till the end. They are unforgettable because they had paid attention to even the smallest of people.
As pastors, I hope that we are the people that inspire. The world and God would want it also. Inspiration cannot be faked. By being an exemplary in relation with God, and also of neighbors, then they are of inspiration. Professor Edmund Burke said, “Being a good exemplary is the way to show the true beauty of humanity.” “Normal teachers only say what is in the textbook, and good teachers try to explain it. Great teachers lead by being a role model – showing good ideas, and great inspirations.” God doesn’t want us to be only good at preaching, but being an exemplary and inspiring worker in God? I question myself if I am like that also.
