What is the priority thing to do?

After finishing my worship service around 4PM in the afternoon on the 10th of December, I drove to Los Angeles in order to arrive at the district office the next day at 9:30AM in the morning.

After driving for 6 hours on Interstate 5, which was unusually clear for the winter, as it usually, has a lot of fog during this time of the year, I arrived at my older brother’s house. I had a habit of falling asleep the moment my head lands on the pillow, and was fatigued as usual – but that night I could not go to sleep that well.

After starting to believe in Jesus, the first book I had read that left an impression was philosopher Carl Hilty’s book, “Für schlaflose Nächte” (For Sleepless Nights) – 1901. The book was about if one takes a nap, and unable to sleep during the night is perfectly normal. Adding on, he wrote that the sleepless night – despite being fatigued is the night when “The LORD comes to meet you during that night.” It was a very meaningful thing to read. Knowing that I was going to be appointed as the superintendent of the Korean district, but at the same time, I give thanks to the LORD that he is able to give me this kind of opportunity to a sinner like me. I had thought of what would be the best way to lead my work in a straight path, and what the LORD wanted me to do as the Korean superintendant.

What was my first priority of things to do from my work?

When I went to the district superintendant meeting, the vice president of the National Ministry Rev. Dan Wiggins said to the first meeting, “What we have gathered for is not for our own plans, but for what God has in plan to us and to find it.” It started with a prayer. In the publisher Sunlife’s book, “Working as Jesus Walked”, in order to be Growing Health Church, the priority thing to do was to have a prayerful life. In example, Mark 1:35, where Jesus had “very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Even Abraham had prayed to God in the dark when he was getting a covenant in Genesis 15:5, “…He took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars – if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” When Jacob was in fear of his life, he had wrestled with an angel during the night in Jabbok (Zarqa) River. Jesus had once said, “…he replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” (Mark 9:29) I was able to figure out that by praying would be the priority thing to do as a superintendant. So I bowed my head and prayed during the night.

As a habit, I got up early that morning and did my quite time. During my youthful days, when a missionary taught me to do quite time, it was the final decision to make me walk in the path of a pastor. The missionary always reminded me, “No Bible, No Breakfast, No Business!” I definitely felt that meditating upon the Word, and praying is the way to do God’s will.

What is the thing I need to do with several pastors now? [to] “Healthy Church, Disciple Church,” is the will of God and to achieve it? To fulfill this “great work” I first have to pray and to live by the word, and to understand the word of God, and what he is leading me into, and become a mature worker to lead the Korean district.
