Sometimes people ask what the distinction of C&MA is.
We usually reply “Denomination that does missionary work” strongly.
But, many of the denomination’s pastors researched that most of the pastor’s interests are in the growth of their church through worship service, evangelization, and educational programs were in the top list. Only 9% of the pastors put their priority in mission and church planting. Would it be a trouble that the church grows? For it is needed to support the missionaries. But the pastors say growth orientation of many churches tends to be own-church centered. Only the growth of my church in numbers and financial status, what would C&MA be like if it didn’t support in the Great Command and the Great Commission?
During the spring time denomination superintendent meeting, the persons in charge said, the passion in supporting the denomination’s missionaries had become less involved. For past several years, the Great Commission Fund only achieved about 96% of the goal, so there were many difficulties in pushing this field ahead. But in Korean District, there was a growth of 74% increase. I pray that there would be another 15% increase in the fund.
To have a mission, there must be 3M. As many know, man, method and money – finding people that are fitting to God’s plan, wanting God’s plan, and to support the missionary themselves.
In the title, I wrote 5M.
There are 2 more things to add besides the 3M in order to have a healthy church growth.
There should be the motivation. As such, even if a car has full tank of Gasoline, if there is no spark, the engine will not move. Apostle Paul said, “For Christ’s love completes us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. (2 Corinthians 5:14)” When all ministries works together in unison and not in competition, for the glory of God, through pure love and cooperation, the fire in us will grow brighter. Healthy church and the mission started through the Holy Spirit’s constant influence.
Finally there is mobilization. Moses did not just sit around after getting God’s call. When God’s pillar of cloud or fire moved, he led the Israelites in that direction. Apostle Paul said to the believers in Rome, “So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain and visit you on the way… (Romans 15:28)” If the goal is lost, the denomination shatters. With obedience to the vision, isn’t there the rise to mobilization? Apostle Paul also said, “…So then King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds… (Acts 26:19, 20)” He had the vision that resurrected Christ gave. He had preached not only to Jews, but Gentiles as well. We also should not only preach to those who are near us, but also to the ends of the world, and become a witness to that and cooperate in this work. I hope and pray that the Korean district is not only 3M but a 5M.
