Of Love

Modern people say they are “isolated”.

Where does this isolation and loneliness come from? If the root of this is not found, there is no cure.

The isolation felt by modern people come from the culture of “self-center motif”. This motif is the habit of “do whatever I desire, don’t bother others and they won’t bother me.” This kind of behavior guarantees freedom from others, but at the same time makes the person isolated.

Human by nature must depend on each other in social manner. But individualism either denies of the nature or weakens that nature.

What is the result? Isolation, loneliness and despair, prone to wander around lost without any hope.

When we become sick, lose a loved one, failed in business, lost the meaning of life, or are near death, then we become desolate and isolated. The only way out from this way is to have some sustained relationship with others. One of the parables that Jesus gives us is of the “Prodigal Son”. After the horrible incident of his life, the son gave the courage to return to his Father’s house, and because he was able to discover the necessity of having some relationship, he was able to have hope.

So where does this proper behavior of giving one’s self, and to accept others?

“Love” is the founding stone of people having great relation to each other. It is the fundamental root of the person and is always needed.

After the prodigal son had failed his life through selfish needs, he realized of the ‘unconditional love’ of his father. The son was only then able to have the courage to return to his father’s home.

“So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)”

Isolation, loneliness and despair cannot love, nor can it be loved. This kind of love is only learned when you learn of the “great love by God”. When you act of this “love” then the isolation, loneliness and despair turns into cooperation, courage and hope.
