Like a Five Star hotel!
Like a Five Star hotel!

While I was living here in San Jose for awhile I had many things to be thankful for.

One thing that stood out the most was those who had done bible study with me, I was able to witness their changes in their life with serving and helping others. I had taught many sessions of “Bountiful Life” which was the most basic in bible study for TEE (Theological Education by
Extension). This bible study is not to be lectured but to be discussed within the group. The central point of this group is not to just build knowledge in the Bible but to apply the verses in their daily lives. After the study session of that day, they have to tell what was about it to another person, and then submit a report. The attendance was very strict so if you missed 2 or more classes, they had to drop the class. During the study time, they had to memorize 18 bible verses and all the core lessons, along with mid terms, and final exam. You would think they would quit, but those who studied with me were very diligent. Some said “If I had studied like this during my student days, I would’ve have been admitted into a distinguished university with top score!”

I had led many groups in bible study but I would never be able to forget two people.

Not only it’s because they support me with prayers and financially to my CHA (Church Health Academy) ministries, but about 3 years ago after my wife had breast cancer operation, I didn’t do an announcement out loud, but through other people who had studied with me at that time, knew about it. I give thanks to those who had prayed for my wife’s well being.

From those people, two of them as a woman understand the situation very well, and showed their love. They had called me whenever they left some fruit in front of the house when I was living with my daughter, made delicious soup and condiments. My wife was supported emotionally when they had food brought from Korea through their family members which is somewhat rare, and since they knew my daughter didn’t know how to cook Korean food well, treated her like a younger sister.

After we entered into the senior apartment, my wife wanted to serve the two ladies with her own cooked food. She wanted to serve them for awhile, before we moved to our apartments, my son in law and granddaughters who were very young and had to be take care of, it was hard to invite someone and to cook for them, even thought we had bought them meals. After moving to the apartment, she invited them and they visited her in our studio room 57.

When they entered the studio they say “Wow! It’s like a Five Star Hotel!” When I asked them why it’s like that they said the front view of the house was great. The apartment I live in is an 11 floor building, and room 57 is in the near – middle of the building.  With a corridor there are other apartment units nearby on the other side. Most of them are facing North-West. My house faces South-East. Towards early morning when the sunlight goes up, the entire balcony and the front window gets lighted up. The sunlight doesn’t come in that deep, but about 1 foot from the balcony. There is a small park, and nearby a one-floored library. Historically it was the first park ever opened in Santa Clara, and also the first library to open. Even though the park size is rather small, there are several ancient trees planted. Front of the apartment has 4 very tall, palm trees planted. Along with the ancient trees and the palm trees, it is quite a view. From the balcony, I can see the quaint town sprawled out. Further out I can see the Santa Cruz Mountains in the distance like a screen on clear days. First 4 floors are low enough to see the full panorama of the park, but to see further is slightly limited. From the 6th floor you can only see the tall palm trees, but to see the park, you have to come out into the balcony to see.

I think the 5th floor of the house has the best view. Especially the way my house is facing South –East you can see such a cool view of outside. The ladies who visited me after lunch said, “You and your wife are blessed!” I was happy to hear that I lived in a 5 star hotel like room. A hotel is for those who travel far, and to rest for some time. While we live in Earth in short span of time, we have roamed around many places and lived in many apartments, I think this is the last ‘hotel’ to stay. I give thanks to God that with the ladies visiting that I am living in the best ‘hotel’ with the greatest view and system, and that I am living there daily.
