Chapter 1 …From the East to West…

In June of 2007 I came back to San Jose after several years of departure.

My plan was to help several pastors out in Virginia.

My son in law wanted to get a job outside the bustle of New York, and with a 3 year old daughter Naomi and newly born Evangeline to have a better growth they wanted to change their scenery. So my daughter’s family wanted, and was looking to find a job in either Virginia or North Carolina. Fortunately I had met several pastors out in Virginia whom I wished to help expand their evangelical work, and have met with them about 3 times to talk about future plans ahead.

While the job position that my son in law was interested in was being delayed, a hospital in the next town called (Mountain View – while I was living in San Jose), and wanted to work immediately so he had to move first before the family.

At that time I was living with my daughter’s family. The reason was because her family was living in Hoboken, New Jersey and we lived in an apartment about 25 minutes in town called Little Ferry. One day my wife’s face was bit strange. I thought it was nothing serious, but when I visited my first granddaughter Naomi, my daughter said mother’s face was strange and called her brother (who is a doctor in military) immediately. My son hearing the story told me to bring her to the hospital immediately. It was found out that a minor stroke had passed, and that she needs to be admitted to hospital immediately or things will get worse. Either it’s because my wife was having hard time adjusting to the cold weathers of the Eastern United States, or from old age, she was admitted to the hospital while we worried of her. My son got a special break and visited the hospital. After talking with doctors, her situation was good so no therapy was needed. But still, one of her hand has lost strength and her speech was slightly impaired. But I thank something worse did not happen.

I was ministering at this time as an associate pastor. My job was mentoring pastors, and to church leaders, I taught bible studies, to help the members of the congregation get closer to the word of God through seminars. Because I had worked as an associate pastor, I was invited to several seminars and mission conference; I was out of town very often. Since my wife had recently suffered another minor stroke, it was impossible for me to travel alone while she was home. Thankfully, my daughter lived close by so we were able to have good times together.

After selling her house, my daughter rented out a place in Cupertino. My wife was very happy that we were back in such a familiar place. After our moving boxes were roughly packed away, my daughter and son in law looked around to find a house. But the problem is, this area the housing costs are very expansive even with mortgage rating going down. At that time I knew it was near impossible for my daughter’s family to look for a large house (because they would another room for me and my wife) because they would have to spent lot of money while I could not help, and if they leave to another state for a job, it would be difficult for my wife because she would have adjust again. I knew many church friends from long time ago in Silicon Valley, so moving again with my daughter’s family would be difficult. Also because I started the Church Health Academy here, so to continue this ministry I thought moving would be difficult.

I had reflected that I did not have much time left in my ministry because of my age, and to have a relationship, long times were required in the local churches and their pastors, and to have leadership seminars, and the bible studies. So for the uncertain future of my daughter’s family’s moving I had prayed. My son’s family wanted us to move to Nevada any time to live with them also, but my son and his wife are both in the military, going to my son’s place was no easy option either. Because every 4 years my son had moved to new destinations, and every time it was different places. If that was the case, my situation, along with my wife’s, I wouldn’t be able to do my ministry and would have to stay at home all the time. This was definitely not an option.
I had retired as a pastor, but I wanted to obey God’s command and will of raising new workers, not caring about my age, and to work until my end. So I had a discussion with my son and daughter.

I told my son and daughter that because of us, they would have to a house and make it a burden to them while finding new jobs, and even if they did move far away, I wanted us to stay here and continue my ministry here. So I got an application for a senior apartment so that my son and daughter won’t have to worry about us. I had this discussion, but in this city, I do not know which of the senior apartments I would be admitted to because of the long line of waiting list. So no one knows when I would be able to live in apartment.
