During Parent’s Day Sunday week
During Parent’s Day Sunday week

Last September I wanted to see my son’s twins so I went to Nevada. My son had to be out of town while I was there so I left on a Saturday to Los Angeles to meet elder KilSang Kwon, and another elder family whom I had a close relationship with. Since it was a Parent’s Day Sunday, I attended Elder Kwon’s church to have a service. During service, the choir sang “Like Mother” which was written by me and composed by Elder Kwon. It was great.
After service I served the elders’ couple lunch, and after I was driving busily up back to northern California. While I was driving along Interstate 5, which is a very long route to north, my wife’s phone rang loudly. “Mrs. Lee! Hello? It’s me, Jinyi! It was Parent’s Day so I called.”It was a beautiful voice coming from my wife’s phone. Her volume on the phone was always on max, so sometimes I can hear all the conversation.
The lady, who called my wife, thinks of my wife as her mother and has a kind soul. Even thought she has a daughter who is going to high school, she is always pure and smiles lot, something really rare to see. First time I saw her when I moved to San Jose in late summer in 2007. She was introduced to me by one of the deaconess who was attending my first planted church back in 1984.
My first impression of her was that she was very calm. She was the perfect model for a mother like figure in Korea, a type of lady I would see while I was growing up in Korea. She wanted to see me because she wanted to discuss about her entering seminary. Also she wanted to discuss her B.S.F., her daughter who is still in elementary school, because it was difficult for her with family and children, we decided to study the “Bountiful Life”. In my bible studies, or even in evangelizing, the rule was that with ladies I never allowed myself to have a 1 on 1 meeting. So I found another lady in her age group and started the study group.
Every Tuesday morning 10AM~ 12PM in the noon for about 20 weeks we had gathered and studied diligently. While I studied with them I was very blessed. Attendance, meetings, and homework, I was very surprised how they did everything nearly perfectly. Not only that, sometimes they brought enough food to the office to eat and share with the workers while I using the office space at A&K Computers. Everyone who knew her all complimented, “she is like the angel who loves to share.”
About 3 years ago, after my wife had her breast cancer surgery, she made and sent food to us like a daughter. After that I saw that like the early churches, she shared food with love and prayers like a daughter to a mother. Several days ago she even sent a box of Washington bracken fern. I thought it was too valuable to eat, and as there were too much for ourselves, we shared with others. During special occasions, like a child to parents she always gave us money as a present. Every time I receive this kind of love, my wife and I are surprised. Sometimes I question myself if I do deserve this much…
Just her caring for us is not the only thing that moves us. I asked all those who had learned with me to pass the knowledge to 2 other people or more. It’s a next step to a ministry. From my ministry in CHA (Church Health Academy), I have never met someone who would teach “Bountiful Life” to anyone else. She currently teaches about 20 other people, from her home, or other places in groups. She could not compare to anyone else in her passion to God’s word than anyone else I have ever met.
During the Parent’s Day Sunday while racing on Interstate 5, her call giving us a certain expression that I still remember. Sometimes being a minister isn’t always the hardest. God’s intricate work always gives us someone to give us strength with valuable people. To love God, and to the neighbors, I give thanks to God that I saw a valuable sister – in Christ like her. I also give her thanks.
