This was about 4 years ago.
I had noticed that Elder Kwon who, for the last 30 years or so had helped me and compose for my hymns that I had written – he was slowly showing signs of decrepitude.
I thought of what would be the wise way to share these hymns to everyone else who loved the Lord. The results were 3 hymnal books and 10 CD albums of all the hymns that were sung. In 2012 I had published my hymnal poems but even that was very limited in sharing to people around.
I had consulted with deacon Hong who was working in the office with me at that time. As a faithful worker in Christ, he was extremely proficient with computers. Deacon Hong had suggested using YouTube as the way to go. He even made the first hymn, “Inspire Me!” as a sample and uploaded it for me. A brother in Christ who works with me learned how to make these videos and started to upload one by one.
Somehow, that was how the original YouTube started however, finding the right pictures for the hymn was the hardest part. Fortunately, Elder Kim whom I met while working in Easter Unite States had sent me many photos to use. He was a photographer and is well known in New York and New Jersey with his own shows. Many of them were of scenery which I used to match with hymns that praised the Lord of His creating power.
After I had ran out, I occasionally used my own pictures that I had taken around but still, that was not enough.
At that time, there was a free picture hosting website that I found and started to use them with the help of those who had published. If you visit a website that has copyrights on them, many of the picture there are perfect to use for hymns, but to buy the copyright to use for the hymn was too much and gave up on that partially.
It was natural that to find pictures for all the 180 hymns to be the closest to the lyric, I had spent many hours and days to match them up as close as possible. Looking back, sometimes I wished some of the pictures would’ve been better but that was enough. At that point of time of making the video this was the best we could do.
The other difficult part was to match the lyrics with the hymn. All of the verses had different timing so matching up the lyrics to the actual hymn was timely sensitive. Sometimes the lyrics would have to go up one by one and go to the next line along with the background switching, the brother in Christ had always done most of that. The starting of this YouTube channel went on for about 3 years – basically about 3 hymns per weekly.
Whenever I visit my channel, I noticed the visitor’s numbers slowly going up. Knowing that this is not the most interesting topic, but the numbers were steadily grown. However, last night (May 9th, 2017) I checked out my YouTube channel again and saw that the visitor number was now 10,001! Deacon Hong (who had helped me with the first video) was working at a different place. I told him the night before that (on the 8th), should the channel reach 10,000 I would serve him lunch (this was while the channel was still at 9,997 visitors) on a phone call. Therefore, in between the phone conversations, there were 4 new visitors to my channel. Since it took me 4 years to get to 10,000 visitors, in average per year, I had about 2,500 visitors.
It matters not how many visitors come and go on my channel; it is the fact that people worship the Lord and praising him. Some days are hard, and knowing that my channel encourages people, and giving new flames of faith to those who had lost them – and rekindling those who’s fires had gone low. Moreover, if there are people who have decided to bear fruits of the Spirit after visiting my channel that is more than enough for me.
I give thanks to the Lord for me to meet someone who is proficient in computer and the brother in Christ who had spent many years making and uploading the videos.
10,001 visitors and on! I am glad and to be able to celebrate this moment.
I hope and pray that many more people would visit and praise the Lord high, and to remember his mighty powers, his grace and salvation and to realize the work of the Lord and be a very faithful at it.
